The proven therapeutic benefits of CBD
Scientific research has highlighted the beneficial properties of CBD for health. The natural product derived from the hemp plant is notably said to have beneficial effects, among others, for:
More and more people are turning to CBD to treat everyday ailments or for their general well-being. Furthermore, healthcare professionals recommend cannabidiol to their patients as a complement to conventional medical treatments.
However, it should be noted that CBD cannot in any way replace medications. The natural substance does not cure but helps relieve the symptoms of certain chronic conditions.
CBD, an effective natural remedy
CBD is considered a natural alternative to certain traditional medications. This type of product increasingly attracts consumers seeking gentler and less invasive solutions.
The mainstreaming of CBD use
The explosion of social media has allowed greater visibility for CBD. This has helped popularize the cannabinoid as a wellness product, thereby attracting a wider audience. Not to mention the trend effect, particularly among younger audiences.
Overall, the growth of the CBD market is the result of a combination of factors enabling the acceptance and mainstreaming of CBD use.
Is selling CBD legal?
CBD legislation varies considerably from one country to another. The law on cannabidiol can even differ from one state to another and from one region or province to another.
In the United States, the sale of hemp-derived CBD containing less than 0.3% THC is legal at the federal level, in accordance with the 2018 Farm Bill. However, each state has its own laws and regulations regarding CBD.
In Europe, legislation also varies from one country to another. It is therefore important to check the legislation in force in your country before buying or selling CBD.
In France, the sale of CBD is legal. Indeed, cannabidiol is recognized by the French authorities in the same way as dietary supplements and wellness products. However, the sale of the product derived from hemp is subject to specific regulations imposing in particular:
- the legal exercise of commercial activity: companies registered with the RCS (Trade and Companies Register) and duly incorporated;
- the possession of a special authorization for the marketing of CBD;
- the THC level limit to less than 0.3% in CBD extracts and CBD products;
- the exclusive sale of CBD derived from Cannabis Sativa L.: this variety of hemp is the only one authorized for cultivation in the member countries of the European Union. Indeed, this plant displays a relatively low cannabidiol level and a low percentage of THC;
- the marketing of CBD intended solely for therapeutic and wellness use.
These standards notably guarantee the quality and safety of the CBD offered to consumers.
Is it permitted to sell CBD at markets?
The regulations in France concerning the sale of CBD are complex and constantly evolving. With regard to markets in France, the regulations are even stricter.
The sale of CBD at open-air markets is prohibited, unless the seller holds a special authorization. This official approval is issued by the town hall of the city where the market is held.
Where can CBD be sold?
In France, the sale of products containing CBD is authorized in specific locations dedicated to the activity, namely:
In specialized physical stores
Sellers can set up their business in a physical location (shop, store, showroom, etc.). They must ensure the premises are properly arranged to present their products correctly and welcome buyers. Specialized stores can sell all forms of CBD intended for therapeutic and wellness use, such as:

Please note, CBD stores are not authorized to sell CBD-based medications such as Sativex. This type of product is exclusively available in pharmacies and accessible only with a special prescription.
In pharmacies
Pharmacies can sell medications formulated with CBD since these products have been approved by health authorities.
Since January 1, 2024, certain pharmacies are authorized to sell CBD-based products. The special authorization is granted subject to compliance with strict quality standards and a prior permission procedure. Furthermore, the Law requires that the pharmacist have the necessary knowledge to advise buyers on the use of the different formats of cannabidiol available in their pharmacy.
On dedicated online sales websites
Merchants holding an authorization to market CBD have the possibility to sell CBD online in France. Nevertheless, the products must be fully compliant with the standards in force. Furthermore, sellers must respect the rules on consumer protection and distance selling.
In summary, it is possible to sell CBD in France, but under certain strict conditions. With regard to open-air markets, sale is prohibited without special authorization. It is therefore important to check local regulations before selling CBD at a market in France.
Furthermore, consumers would be well advised to purchase their CBD only from approved sellers and in authorized locations. This notably guarantees the quality of cannabidiol products. Thereby eliminating any risk of side effects.
