Why consume CBD?

Cannabidiol or CBD has been highly sought after in recent years. Physical and online CBD retail outlets are multiplying, particularly to meet a rapidly growing demand. But why such enthusiasm for CBD? Why consume CBD?

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol is the second active component of hemp, after tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). But unlike the latter, CBD is not a narcotic and does not create dependency. CBD notably concentrates most of the therapeutic benefits of cannabis. The therapeutic properties of cannabidiol and the absence of risk associated with its use are notably recognized by the WHO.

What are the benefits of CBD?

Numerous specialized studies demonstrate the therapeutic benefits of CBD. CBD would notably act in the body as a:

  • painkiller : the cannabidiol molecule binds to the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system to inhibit the sensation of pain ;
  • calming and relaxing agent : CBD would be effective in fighting stress and anxiety. Its actions would also help combat insomnia and sleep disorders ;
  • anti-inflammatory : inflammations notably result from the defense actions of immune cells against external aggression factors. CBD limits cell responses and thus considerably reduces, or even avoids, inflammation ;
  • antiemetic : cannabidiol would present beneficial properties against nausea and vomiting ;
  • neuroprotective : CBD would have effects that help prevent the development of neurodegenerative diseases ;

According to more than one in-depth scientific study, CBD would also possess a specific effect that would help stop the growth of tumors and cancers. The cannabinoid would also promote growth. Research is still ongoing to highlight other health benefits of CBD.

Is CBD consumption legal in France?

French legislation authorizes the cultivation, use, and consumption of CBD. However, many amendments have been made to the French law on cannabidiol. Nevertheless, the official announcement by the Council of State dated 29 December 2022 officially stipulates the legalization of CBD throughout France. Know, however, that CBD cultivation is subject to specific regulations, including:

  • the THC content threshold in CBD plants and products at 0,2% : a THC level above this legal limit can cause euphoria. The product would therefore be considered a narcotic, strictly prohibited for use in France ;
  • the exclusive cultivation of Cannabis Sativa L. for extracting CBD : this variety of hemp has a high CBD level and a low THC content. Cannabis Sativa L. is the only variety of hemp authorized for production in France and the European Union ;
  • the use of CBD for therapeutic purposes and for well-being only.

The French authorities closely monitor the quality of CBD. Indeed, specialists regularly carry out checks on producers and approved sellers of legal CBD in France. These tests make it possible to assess CBD's compliance with current quality and safety standards.

In which cases should CBD be used?

CBD holds the status of a natural remedy, just like food supplements. French health institutions do not consider CBD as a medication. This is why the use of cannabidiol is limited to well-being and health, and not for medical needs.

Consequently, taking CBD is only authorized for people seeking the overall balance of their metabolism and for beauty care. the consumption of cannabidiol to soothe everyday ailments such as migraines, various pains (muscular, joint, etc.) as well as to relieve the symptoms of certain chronic diseases is also approved. In the latter case, CBD complements basic medical treatments. Both courses of treatment must imperatively comply with prescriptions or recommendations made by the attending physician.

It should be noted, however, that there are certain CBD medications intended for the treatment of psychological and nervous disorders such as epilepsy. Special CBD medications to relieve the symptoms of multiple sclerosis are also sold in pharmacies. These products are subject to special regulations. Their production, sale, and use are very strictly supervised by the competent authorities in France. The medications concerned are only available with a special prescription written by the patient's attending physician.

The different forms of CBD intended for consumption

CBD is available in different forms commercially. You can notably find:

  • CBD oils : these are vegetable oils enriched with CBD molecules and often with other ingredients. CBD oils may contain the other components of hemp (terpenes, flavonoids, cannabinoids including THC at a regulated level),
  • capsules: these are capsules containing CBD powder ;
  • infusions: there is tea made from CBD leaves and herbal tea made from CBD flowers or fruits. CBD infusion is generally formulated with dried or fresh CBD plant extracts. You must prepare your hot drink before tasting;
  • e-liquids: to be used like a regular e-liquid with an electronic cigarette ;
  • everyday food products: syrups, coffee capsules, honey, confectionery, culinary oils, etc.

There are even CBD oils for animals. And yes! Our little four-legged companions can also benefit from the health benefits of this substance derived from the cannabis plant.

The choice of CBD format depends on your preferences, your personal needs, and your lifestyle. Make your selection from the range of superior quality CBD products suggested by dedicated and approved brands.
