Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the main components of hemp with numerous health benefits and is non-psychotropic. Thus, the substance is legalized in several European countries such as France. CBD lends itself to various uses. So can you smoke CBD and drive?

The properties of cannabidiol

CBD is the second component of hemp after tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The two substances are notably distinguished by the fact that CBD has no euphoric properties. On the contrary, this cannabinoid concentrates the many benefits of hemp. Various scientific studies have demonstrated that CBD may have the following potential:

  • analgesic: the cannabidiol molecule binds to receptors of the endocannabinoid system to inhibit pain perception;
  • anti-inflammatory: CBD acts by significantly limiting the reactions of immune system cells to reduce, or even avoid, the symptoms of inflammation;
  • regulators of the digestive system: cannabidiol optimizes the functioning of the digestive system. The molecule notably calms the contractions that occur in the small intestine. It thus helps combat nausea and vomiting;

Furthermore, dedicated research reveals the antiseptic actions of CBD. In addition, cannabidiol may contribute to stopping the growth of cancerous tumors. Observations and scientific trials are still ongoing to highlight other therapeutic benefits of the cannabinoid.

Is CBD legal in France?

The French authorities recognize the qualities of CBD. An announcement by the Council of State dated 29 December 2022 formalizes the legalization of CBD in France. French legislation thus authorizes the sale and consumption of Cannabidiol. However, the use of the cannabinoid in France is subject to specific regulations. The THC content in CBD products is notably limited to 0,3 %.

How to use CBD?

Cannabidiol is sold in various forms on the specialized market. Usage differs from one type of product to another. You can notably choose between:

CBD oil is administered sublingually. To do so, place the drops under your tongue. Let it act for 20 to 60 seconds before swallowing with a large glass of water. This method of administration offers almost immediate effects.

CBD flower is an extract of the hemp plant, containing less than 0,3 % THC. You can consume CBD flower as an infusion in boiling water and fat. This product can also be used by inhalation through vaporization.

CBD food products

Specialized producers also offer different types of food products with cannabidiol. You can get candies in various forms, honey sticks, jam, culinary oils, coffee capsules, syrups, and many other everyday foods with CBD. These foods are consumed and used daily like their classic versions.

CBD e-liquid

This is an e-liquid whose composition is supplemented with CBD, to be vaped with an electronic cigarette like a classic e-liquid. The use of CBD e-liquid would notably help with smoking cessation. CBD e-liquids come in a wide variety of flavors, like basic e-liquids.

Can you smoke CBD?

Combustion eliminates all the qualities of CBD. Moreover, this method of use produces toxic particles. So, no, you cannot smoke CBD!

However, as detailed in the lines above, you can vape CBD e-liquids to enjoy the benefits of the product.

Is it permitted to drive after taking CBD?

CBD is legal in France. No law therefore prohibits getting behind the wheel after taking cannabidiol. However, driving after ingesting CBD can expose the driver and their passengers, as well as other road users, to serious dangers. Indeed, the effects of CBD can vary considerably depending on the consumer's metabolism.

Besides its benefits, CBD can also cause undesirable side effects or inverse effects on the body. These consequences generally occur following an overdose or an interaction with certain medications. Poor-quality CBD products also cause adverse effects on the body.

Drowsiness and loss of concentration are notably the most common side effects of cannabidiol. Driving is an activity that requires maximum vigilance. Thus, it is strongly advised against taking the wheel of a vehicle or machine after taking CBD.

In summary, to clearly answer the question, you cannot smoke CBD and drive.
