Can you put CBD oil on a cigarette?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is highly sought after for its many health benefits. This natural product derived from the hemp plant is available in various forms in specialized stores. CBD oil is notably the most common product and lends itself to various uses. So, can you put CBD oil on a cigarette?

What is CBD oil?

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a product derived from cannabis. It is formulated with a vegetable carrier oil base such as coconut oil or hemp seed oil. The base product is then enriched with CBD and sometimes other components extracted from the Cannabis Sativa L. plant.

There are several types of CBD oil depending on their composition. In particular, products are distinguished by their CBD concentration. This level can range from 5% to 40%. The percentage of cannabidiol notably influences the product's dosage. Furthermore, there are CBD oils:

  • Full spectrum: This type of oil contains all the natural compounds of cannabis. It contains CBD, THC (within the legal limits of 0,2% or 0,3%) and other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids;
  • Broad Spectrum: They contain all the natural compounds of cannabis, except THC. This form of CBD oil is an option for those who do not want to consume THC;
  • Isolates: These types of products contain only pure CBD, without other cannabinoids, terpenes, or flavonoids. It is the most common form of CBD oil used as a dietary supplement. CBD isolate is the best alternative for consumers who are sensitive to the other components of cannabis. Pure cannabidiol oil is also a relevant choice if you have doubts about the legality of using the other components of hemp.

Proponents of full spectrum or broad spectrum CBD oil claim that the combined action of the hemp plant's active ingredients is more beneficial than that of isolated CBD. This is partly explained by the entourage effect, according to which the other components of cannabis optimize the effects of CBD. The other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids also exert specific effects that are also beneficial for health and well-being.

CBD oil is generally sold in a tinted bottle with a capacity of 10 to 30 ml and fitted with a graduated pipette dropper cap.

Why use CBD oil?

CBD oil is used because of its potentially beneficial properties for health. However, it should be noted that research on the effects of CBD oil is still limited. However, preliminary studies have suggested that using CBD oil may help to:

  • Relieve pain: CBD oil may help reduce chronic pain. The product is said to help soothe pain associated with arthritis, muscle pain, and multiple sclerosis;
  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and depression: CBD oil helps reduce anxiety and depression, as well as associated symptoms such as insomnia and mood disorders;
  • Improve sleep quality: The cannabidiol molecule is said to help improve sleep quality. The natural substance derived from the cannabis plant is notably recommended for treating insomnia and other sleep disorders;
  • Limit or even avoid inflammation: CBD oil could prevent inflammation. The product is said to be particularly effective in calming pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease;
  • Reduce the symptoms of epilepsy: The FDA approves the use of CBD oil for the treatment of certain types of epilepsy.

However, cannabidiol oil does not replace medical treatments prescribed by a healthcare professional. If you are considering using CBD oil for a medical condition, it is important to consult your primary care physician beforehand.

How to use CBD oil?

CBD oil is notably the most practical product for regular use. Indeed, this substance with multiple benefits lends itself to different methods of administration, to be chosen according to your preferences and habits. You can notably use cannabidiol oil:

Sublingually

Sublingual administration allows rapid absorption of CBD into the body. The effects of CBD are then felt within 1 to 2 minutes after taking it.

Administering CBD oil sublingually is done in a few steps. First, you must draw up the number of drops of product corresponding to the dose defined for your treatment. You must then place the drops under your tongue and hold them there for 20 to 60 seconds. This waiting period corresponds to the time needed for the cannabidiol molecule to be absorbed into the body through the oral mucous membranes. Once the product has been absorbed, you can swallow the drops. If the rather strong taste of CBD bothers you, drink a large glass of water.

By ingestion

You can consume CBD oil orally, by ingestion. To do this, pour the drops of product equivalent to the required dosage into your meals or drinks. Be careful, however, not to subject the cannabidiol to a high temperature. This can alter the qualities of the product and therefore compromise its effects in your body.

Taken by ingestion, CBD is absorbed through the digestive mucous membranes. This mechanism takes 1 to 2 hours. You must therefore wait a few hours after oral administration to feel the effects of the cannabidiol.

Is it possible to put CBD oil on a cigarette?

CBD consumers, and particularly smokers, might be tempted to put CBD oil on their cigarette. However, this method of use is absolutely not recommended by health professionals and cannabidiol experts.

Indeed, smoking a traditional cigarette is highly detrimental to health. Furthermore, CBD oil subjected to combustion produces harmful substances. Smoking a cigarette with CBD oil therefore increases the health risks to which the user is exposed.

As a reminder, smoking can cause respiratory and cardiovascular problems, as well as cancer risks.
